Rama Sekhar
PartnerCybersecurity, AI, Cloud Infrastructure
Rama is a partner at Menlo Ventures, focused on investments in cybersecurity, AI, and cloud infrastructure. He is passionate about partnering with founders to build the next generation of cybersecurity, infrastructure, and observability companies for the new AI stack; his goal is to serve them a trusted advisor, earning the right to be their first call, for good news or bad.
Rama joined Menlo after 15 years at Norwest Venture Partners, where he invested in a number of successful companies, including Algorithmia, Dremio, Harness, InfluxData, Numbers Station, Veza, and more. Rama was previously an investor at Comcast Ventures and also worked at Cisco, where he held roles as a systems engineer and product manager.
As the son of immigrants, Rama’s upbringing was steeped in the values of hard work and education. His father, a talented electrical engineer, and his mother, a dedicated math teacher, instilled in him a deep appreciation for the world of knowledge and innovation. Rama was predestined for a future in technology and engineering. Alongside that pursuit, he found inspiration in an unexpected place—the world of music. From his earliest school days to his college years, playing the trumpet provided an outlet for his creative spirit. The marriage of creativity and analytical problem-solving served as an early foundation for his career in venture capital.
Rama earned his MBA from the Wharton School with a double major in finance and entrepreneurial management. He also holds a BS in electrical and computer engineering from Rutgers University with high honors. Beyond work, you can catch Rama jacking up threes on the basketball court, savoring his winemaker wife’s latest creations, rooting hopelessly for the NY Giants, and doubling as a human jungle gym for his two children.
